WLA Acquires Risk Engineering Inc.

William Lettis & Associates (WLA) has acquired Risk Engineering, Inc. (REI), a firm specializing in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) and natural hazards-based risk assessment to engineered facilities. WLA is an operating company of Fugro, N.V., with offices worldwide and REI will merge with WLA's geohazard division. With this merger, REI's expertise in seismic hazard and risk analysis, and in hazards and risks from hurricanes, wind and wave loads, and storm surge, will complement WLA's expertise in site investigations and geotechnical characterization of sites.

REI's software EZ-FRISK™ and ST-RISK™, with applications and databases for worldwide applications, provide simple and cost-effective characterization of hazard and risk for facilities worldwide. These software programs will continue to be licensed and supported, to help clients make informed decisions about engineered facilities that do not require detailed site-specific studies. The release of EZ-FRISK™ 7.3 incorporating the 2008 USGS databases is scheduled for September 1, 2008, and for ST-RISK™ 4.4 is scheduled for October 1, 2008.

REI will continue to support clients from our Boulder, Colorado and Acton, Massachusetts offices, and our personnel and contacts will not change. REI has worked closely with WLA over the past 10 years on projectsfor common clients, and looks forward to continuing that support in a seamless way. Dr. Robin McGuire, the founder of REI, will become Vice President and Executive Manager of WLA. Dr. Gabriel Toro will become a Senior Principal Engineer with WLA.
